Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!

Better late than never, welcome to winter and what a start we’ve had! I’ve spoken to seasoned locals who have said that they haven’t seen such early or prolific snowfall in years.

My daughter and I enjoyed her first snow-day very much!

Queenstown has been absolutely bustling and buzzing with visitors, and Matariki celebrations and Winter Fest have provided a fun reminder of what pre-covid life was like!! Long may it continue….

The shop has been busy with school holiday visitors, and plenty of Aussies crossing the ditch too. Everyone agrees, it’s soooooo nice to be able to travel freely again.

Central Otago in winter is just delicious – freezing cold but bluebird skies day after day (unless it’s snowing of course!). The majesty of the surrounding mountains really comes alive, and the still days make everything look a little surreal, like a miniature train model.

I love the conversations that I have with customers when they come into the shop – some are shocked, some are astounded, some even cry. I wanted to create a real sensory experience – sights, smells and sounds that demand a reaction…whatever that reaction may be. Often I have to defend the presence of the taxidermy. Some people walk in and quickly turn around and walk out again. It’s not for everyone, but for me it allows a second life, and an opportunity for appreciating up close what are, such beautiful creatures. Usually people leave with a sense of wonder and awe at the world around us, for which I am glad.

Below is a selection of some of our new beasties….

We do have some wonderful new products, from jewellery and stationary, to books and taxidermy which are added almost daily. Make sure you keep checking the ‘new product‘ category on our website. I’ve also given in to my mummy voice, and now have two beautiful ranges of children’s things – inspired by plants and animals of course. Danish brand Fabelab, who’s soft organic cotton products are just beautiful, and as mentioned before, French toy maker Moulin Roti of which we are getting a re-stock soon once my supplier returns from France!

We are also very proud to now be an exclusive stockist of talented Auckland Photographer Helen Bankers, who’s floral photography graces a range of beautiful things from silk velvet cushions, beautiful linen clutches to prints and greeting card. You can see the range here.

Well that’s it for another season, all the best to you and yours…bring on springtime!
